Health and Safety Lecture and Workshop

Health and Safety Lecture and Workshop

Today we attended a health and safety lecture which played a part in enabling us to use the workshops. The talk consisted of what could go wrong and how and the precautions we had to take to avoid any dangers within the workshop. This ranged from wearing equipment, such as safety to goggles when objects could fly out of the machine and a mask when there is a sufficient amount of dust, to ensuring the machine is safe to use by doing certain checks. We also attended two workshop tours. In these we were briefed on what the signs around the rooms meant and how to respond to them, such as when to wear PPI. We were shown how to use various tools and machines; these included a band saw, pillar drill, metal sander, vacuum former, gerbil machine, strip heater and bending jig. After the demonstrations we then had a go ourselves.
