London Trip – Roca Gallery
The Roca Bathroom Showroom is situated on Townmead Road and was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
On entering, we were given background knowledge and information on the interior design of the building and about Zaha Hadid herself. We looked at the forms and structures of the space, materials and outside of the building. It’s concept comes from water in its many forms and phases. The continuous curves connect the whole gallery and portrays how space can be adapted and made. Zaha Hadid incorporated Roca’s established history and culture of innovation into experience and space. Inside consisted of display space, a meeting room, library, cafe bar, reception and multi-media wall instead of just a gallery. Video screens are scattered around the room to engage visitors and make them feel like they are in an active design centre.
White pods build the spine of the interior which are made from and create a contrast between the grey concrete display walls. There is a mosaic style tiled floor which is made from their own Roca ceramics. It creates a striking visual effect.
