Brian's Seventh Drawing Class - Tapestry 2/2

Brian’s Seventh Drawing Class – Tapestry 2/2

Continuing on from last week’s drawing session and our self-directed work was completion of the tapestry for the new design building. We had all completed our given section by giving it colour and so we focused on adding the final touch which was shadow. I used watercolour crayons to design my piece of the jigsaw. I used a variety of techniques. I layered a single colour over and over again in different areas to get different tones and often mixed colours to create a series of colours that I did not have crayons for. This layering and mixing added to the effect of an uneven stone surface that had also been hit by the weather. The source of light was coming from the top left corner and so shadows were only added to areas the sun would not hit. On my work the shadows are expressed using a warm grey kurecolour pen. Today we also focused on creating the sky – it was produced in blue pastels which made a tidy and clear background for the building in front.
