Sketch Visuals

Today we looked at how to find inspiration for interior spaces from surroundings objects and shapes – focusing on previous sketch models. To begin with we looked at how to draw and fit humans into our designs. Stickmen are to be avoided and instead to find your own stylised way. We had go’s at drawing different styles of people and experimented a bit. I found that the faster you drew the people and the less you cared about accuracy, the better the outcome.

After this we selected photos of sketch models and added detail onto them to turn them into spaces. I designed a bar, retail shop, hotel reception and an art gallery. We create them like collages, using different colours and mediums. I looked at already existing shapes alongside negative and positive spaces and often altered them to create new forms. I added people in these sketches to give the designs a sense of function and proportion.

Our self directed work was to go away and take a photo of an interesting composition or set of objects and turn them into a space. I chose to lay out some oranges, apples and a fork, spoon and knife. I created a library.
